Rethinking Weight: Understanding Behavior, Trauma & Change

Coach

About Misty

I believe the conversation around weight needs to go deeper than just calories, diets, and willpower.

My work explores the complex relationship between weight, nutrition, behavior, emotional health, and trauma, focusing on the factors that shape how we eat, respond to stress, and approach lasting change. Rather than reducing obesity to simply a matter of personal discipline, I’m interested in the “why” behind behavior and how a more complete understanding can lead to more meaningful approaches to health and wellness.

My background bridges several disciplines; I hold an MS in Nutrition and an MA in Philosophy, along with certification in Mental Health Counseling. I am also pursuing a PhD in Nutritional Medicine and an EdD specializing in Educational Psychology. I am a member of The Obesity Society and the Obesity Action Coalition.

As an author and speaker, my goal is to help rethink the way we understand weight by bringing nutrition, behavior, and the psychological and emotional influences on health into the same conversation. Lasting change is rarely just about knowing what to eat, it also begins with understanding the person behind the behavior.
